Shamelessly stealing this. ♥
Leave a comment, and I'll tell you whatever pops into my mind about you when I read it- what I associate you with, what you make me feel like, whatever random thing it may be.

Ahahaha, I think they might be closer to meeting than people realize? Tony Marino, the guy who used to tour manage TAI (back in Tom's day, even!) tour manages the Jonas Brothers and recently played softball with the Jonas Brothers. Also, there's the Pete Wentz Factor. (If they've met him, they can meet anyone in bandom. XD)
And no, that did make sense!
That too, but I think some of it is that people like the characterization and stereotype of bad-boy with a heart of gold. Sort of like how everyone loved the stereotype Gabe-Or-Bert is always the bad guy. But the age thing is something that you have to take into account, I think. Like, Mike is ONLY three years older than me, barely at that. (He was born in December of 84, I'm in May of 87)
And I know from 2005, when I graduated, to now, I've done a lot of growing up, and I would think, someone in his position of being on tour and writing albums, and being so close to a particular group of people...yeah, I think there is a certain amount of maturing from growing up and growing older. I mean, in 2005, Mike and Tom were, what? 21ish? IF that? (And hell, look at Sisky!)
I don't think Mike being a complicated asshole is really a bad thing! It's a depth to his character, at least, which is rare in some people in fic. And Skippy fic, yeah. But granted, that, I think, is to be chalked up more to Kevin's characterization. And okay, yes, I freely admit that for a while there, Mike Carden was kind of creepy serial-killer looking. (Not to say I didn't love him for it, but SERIOUSLY, DR. FEAR IS FUCKING CREEPY)
But with Kevin, I think a lot of people see it as...he's on Disney, he wears a purity ring, he's the son of a pastor and thinks Insta-Lamb. Not to say that he isn't on some levels, but it's a fall-back. Personally, I think that Kevin's been on tour enough and around enough people who are older than him (Garbo, anyone?) to expose him to a certain personality. The thing about it is that people seem to forget that Kevin had the benefit of going through school, you know?
I was a pretty naive kid, and even just from riding the bus...good lord, the amount of shit I heard in middle school was distressing sometimes! So I don't think Kevin is as innocent as he's written sometimes...but it is kind of fun to write Kevin as kind of jumpy around Mike, who I think is more blunt than anything, which comes across as being an asshole.

Date: 22 Oct 2010 04:29 (UTC)oh for sure, five years makes a *huge* difference! I just think it's interesting that authors are (at least in the high school Aus) writing him younger but with the maturity of his present self.
and I guess I figured that Kevin was home schooled (either because of religion or touring) so I never actually thought about what his experience there would have been - but yeah, if he went to high school, he can't be that innocent

And I'm not TOTALLY sure? I know that they started doing homeschooling around the same time they went on tour, if I'm remembering correctly? And I could be totally wrong, so, y'know, grain of salt, but if they started homeschooling around the same time they started touring then...their first album was released in 2006. So, taking into account when they were recording...he was 17-18. So he was at least in a few years of high school. Like I said, I'm not sure how much high school he was in, because I don't know how long he might have been home schooled...but I'd bet there was a bit of him actually going to real school, versus how much Joe and Nick went to.
