This is actually not as cracky as it gets, which is sort of amazing. The prompt is actually the first line ("Absolutely not. Unless...no. Absolutely not."), given to me by

Title: Bright Plans
Characters: Nicole Anderson, Zack Hall (Background Jon Walker/Nicole Anderson)
Rating: PGish for some language
Word Count: 680
::Disclaimer: I own nothing, save MAYBE the title. I highly doubt that.::
Summary: Zack + Nicole = Concert buddies.
"Absolutely not. Unless...no. Absolutely not."
"Come oooonnn, you promised me," she says through the phone and Zack sighs, pulling up the website and looking over it again. He can hear Nicole talking to Fendi through the phone and he knows that if she gets hurt, he's going to be dead. And not even amusing-dead-like-a-zombie, but like Hannibal-Lecter-ate-my-kidneys-dead.
"Dude, you will, like, die in that pit."
"Not if you're there to protect me," she says, cheerful and perky and Zack wants to tell her no. He wants to tell her that there is no way on Earth he is going to take her to a giant-ass thrash festival where she'll want to get into the pit and give Zack a million heart-attacks.
"I knew you loved me most," Nicole says, holding onto his arm and Zack groans, shoving at her ineffectually. His shirt feels too heavy and warm for the day, as they hand over their tickets and get wristbands and Zack sometimes wonders what part of a show is his favorite; getting there and seeing it, or afterward when they're still hung up on it and breathless with excitement.
"It's not a matter of love, it's a matter of I can't say no to anyone."
"And you love me."
"And you're annoying."
"Your face is annoying," she says, beaming up at him as they make their way into the crowd. Zack snorts, walking into the middle where he knows the pit won't be as bad (because he likes his kidneys intact), as Nicole gives him a look.
"What?"
"Don't you 'what' me. Are you gonna go up front with me, or are you gonna stay back here?" she asks, and it should be ridiculous; this small girl in her ratty jeans and ratty t-shirt with a hat jammed over her hair glaring at him. She puts her hands on her hips and Zack doesn't want to laugh, but really, it's like a puppy. Probably a puppy who's gonna chew on his leg, but whatever.
"It'll probably be better back here," he says, shrugging as she eyes him.
"Dude, don't glare at me. If you get hurt out here, Jon will eat my fucking kidneys for dinner."
"What the fuck, Zack?" she says, face changing from annoyance to confusion as he shrugs. Zack laughs a little, watching her roll her eyes and drag him forward. She laughs again, happy and bright before hugging him tight.
"You're such a weirdo, but I'm glad I've finally got someone who appreciates good music," she says as he hugs her again and ruffles her hair before the band comes onstage and Zack loses himself in the crowd.
They go out to eat after, both of them sweaty and bruised and Zack's pretty sure he's gonna have a black eye and that Nicole's gonna have one hell of a bruise on her left arm. But Zack can't stop beaming at her and Nicole's beaming right back as they eat like they've been starving for three fucking days.
"Go to concerts with me forever, Zack Hall," Nicole says, beaming at him. Zack laughs, nudging her with his foot under the table. His face hurts, her hair's hanging limply in her face and he thinks that it might terrify him (what with the threats of Jon eating his kidneys, et cetera) but he likes Nicole. He likes Nicole for the way she laughs, the way she makes fun of Jon just as fondly, and he likes her for wanting to go to shows with him.
"Yeah, I guess we could work that out," Zack says, grinning. He finishes his food first, waiting on her as they go over all the moments that made the show something to talk about. This is his favorite part of going to shows, he thinks, rehashing it, talking about it over and over, and seeing someone else be completely enthusiastic about it as well.
Two months later and he's calling her, "Dude, Every Time I Die, next week, I've got tickets."
"You are my favorite," Nicole says over Jon's protestations in the background as Zack laughs.

Date: 7 Nov 2010 02:33 (UTC)right now I'm just having this problem where mostly all I want to write is dust verse but everything keeps fitting wrong and I'm unhappy with it. I blame the fact that the story keeps wanting action and only certain povs so I'm knowing stuff from like 15 different povs but only able to write in like two*argh...headdesk*
