Flogging Molly primer: Pictures and Video

Primer, part 1. Info.

Flogging Molly have very few official videos from a few albums. Some of them have been in support of various things, such as one of their videos was in promotion of their 2006 documentary Whiskey On A Sunday.:

Albums
Swagger (2000)
Drunken Lullabies (2002)
Within A Mile Of Home (2004)
Float (2008)

Live Albums/Compilations
Alive Behind The Green Door (1997)
Whiskey On A Sunday (2006)
Complete Control Sessions (2007)
Live At The Greek Theatre (2010)

They've released a few videos for early songs, such as The Likes Of You Again, which, for some reason, I can't find for the life of me. There's also a video for the song What's Left Of The Flag, which, both of these can be found on the DVD Live At The Greek Theatre.

HAH! Found that one. \o/

The first video that really struck people was Drunken Lullabies:

With a lot of their videos, you're not going to really SEE them in the video much, but god, so much fun.

This one, for Seven Deadly Sins is honestly one of my favorite videos ever. It's very Monty Python-esque and goes a long way to describing them.

Laura is pretty much a love song to their fans, video wise. It's in support of Whiskey On A Sunday and. It always, always, always makes me smile.

PICTURES!!

So, Dave King was born in 1961, right?

Dave

LOOK AT HIS LITTLE CHUBBY BABY LEGS. I promise, I'm not that much of a creepster. These are screencaps from the Whiskey DVD.

Dave

This picture of Dave is actually ON the cover to the Whiskey DVD. His freccckkkllleeesss. ♥

Dave

Dave

These two pictures are of Dave, when he was playing with Fastway. Yes, Dave is the lovely young man with the writing on his shirt.

Like I said, Fastway WASN'T a bad band! I've been able to find a few videos on YouTube, specifically ones that I thought really showed Fastway off the best. The first one is Say What You Will from their debut album and Dave IS the one singing. I know, it's a shock, isn't it?

And The World Waits For You from 1985:

They're not the best quality, but whatever, good enough, right? You can really tell it was the 80s, and what kills me, is Dave's VOICE. Like, if I didn't recognize Dave from his looks...I never would guess that's Dave King singing.

In the early 90s, Dave got together with Katmandu

Dave

You can laugh. It's okay, promise.

To date, this is the ONLY Katmandu video I've EVER found since I found out the name of this band. It's still hilarious. They've got a pretty decent sound, though, kind of Great White inspired.

Really, if you're not laughing your ass off at Dave King right now, I'm going to be disappointed. XD

From Katmandu, Dave got out of his Epic contract and eventually joined Flogging Molly:

Now Bridget. She's such a lovely lady.

Like I said, she's been playing the violin since she was 3:

Bridget

Bridget

So cuuuttteeee. God.

When she was 18, she moved out to California to meet up with other musicians, and eventually met Dave, coming to join Flogging Molly later:

I don't know how I have barely any pictures of her with her tin whistle, honestly. Well, okay, probably because most photographers are allowed like. 3 songs in the photographer's area, and they don't pull the tin whistle out until later in the show.

Next up is Nathen! Nathen Maxwell is my favorite gangly dork.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Basically, he was precious. He still is, but LOOK AT HIM. I wanna smoosh him. That's probably weird, except for how he'd smoosh back these days.

Photobucket

Now, I did mention that Nate had a small solo project last year, Nathen Maxwell and the Original Bunny Gang, which is. AMAZING. The video for their song 'Working For The Man' is one of my favorites:

There's also another video that I love, an acoustic version of Salt and Sand and. God, NATE.

The guy on drums? That's Nate's Dad, Tom. Or generally referred to as Papa Maxwell.

Dennis Casey is one cool motherfucker. Like, that's my favorite description of him, and it's from Matt and it's so TRUE.

Dennis

Dennis

He's also one of the most caring people on the Earth, next to everyone else in this band.

One thing I find hilarious about Bob is that for a while there, he looked like he belonged in a straight up, emo band. He had the hair and even had his lip pierced for a very short while. ♥Bob Schmidt♥

Bob

Bob

Also, how can you not like him? He plays the fucking BANJO and makes it look COOL.

Bob

^^This is one of my favorite shorter interviews with Bob, it's got some good backstory and the like. (Fair warning: The stories differ from how all of them got together. Take it with a grain of salt.)

This is another one of my favorite videos, because it's with Nate and Bob in 2007, and it's got tons of live footage.

*Also, if you were to write me Nate/Bob, I'd fall at your feet in delight. [livejournal.com profile] hector_rashbaum's written one called Drunken Lullabies and it's AMAZING. (it is also based in some truth. Nate did kiss Bob's neck at a show I was at. ♥__♥*)

So, I've babbled about Matt Hensley being moderately famous before Flogging Molly, but here's some video of him skating to really help:

I want it known, that some of the tricks I've seen Matt do...the phrase "YOU CRAZY MOTHERFUCKER" HAS been known to go through my head.

George Schwindt is one of the best fucking drummers out there.

Tobacco Island is a song that I always find myself going gape-jawed over George's drumming. He's amazing.

I know that I mentioned Gary, George's brother and Flogging Molly's manager briefly. I don't know that much about him, but I know that he takes care of this band and they love the ever loving shit out of him. He's family, for them.

Coincidentally, his birthday is on St. Patrick's Day. He finds it hilarious and a little annoying, but the LOOK on his face when he talks about it is pure happiness. He's a good guy.

You can hear Gary playing the trumpet on a few Flogging Molly songs, most notably These Exiled Years and Sentimental Johnny from the album, Swagger.

And I mentioned Joe and Bill from SideOneDummy, but I don't have a ton of info on them, but I DO have this video!

And some more videos and photos because I am running out of commentary, honestly.

The interesting thing about this video is that that's actually Ted Hutt on guitar, because this is not very long after Flogging Molly formed. This is in 1997 and was recorded at Molly Malone's.

This is my favorite video ever. It's a tourbus interview and it. is. hilarious.

On Whiskey On A Sunday, they released some acoustic versions of their songs, and my favorite version is Wanderlust which was an electric song but turned acoustic.

Another Bag Of Bricks is a good one too:

The thing about Flogging Molly is they're honest. Honesty is. Amazing. They care, they love, and most of all, they play some of the most honest music I've ever heard.

They also have a message for their songs, and this one is especially poignant:

So, now you know about them, you know what they look like. Maybe you're wondering what pairings you could do.

Really, these guys (and lady!) are ably paired with anyone, just like any other band. They've tour with SO MANY different bands, they know so many people.

Like, okay, if you wanna cross Flogging Molly with bandom...Dave King knows, and is good friends with, the guys in The Bouncing Souls. You know who else loves the Bouncing Souls and happens to be friends with them?

Frank Iero.

Dave and Bridget are always fun. Mostly because eeeee, they're married now. ♥♥♥___♥♥♥ (I will never not be hearts eyed over that)

I've noticed a lot of Nate/Dennis possibilities, which makes sense, because those two are basically peas in a pod. Hell, Nate's been known to sit in Dennis' lap when there's no other room.

But this whole band is so affectionate with each other.

Like, in the Whiskey On A Sunday DVD, Dave describes Dennis as...when you have something, the best part of you, that you want to show the world...that's how he sees Dennis, in relation to Flogging Molly.

♥_♥

Really, there are...tons and tons of pairings you could do through this, I mean, hell, go on pretty! Bob and Matt! Bob and anyone! Bob and all of bandom!

I mean, what?

0:-)

The purpose of this primer wasn't to beg for fic, but you know, I WOULD LOVE IT, OKAY?

I know that after the MCR thing, everyone's kind of feeling wounded, but this here? This is a band who love each other with every single breath they take.

I think that this band is. It's a band that stays because it's a band that loves whole-heartedly.

As Bob said, they're lucky bastards. But so are their fans.

Thank you so much for posting this primer. FM is one of those bands I've always loved and whenenver I try to point people in their direction and explain how awesome them are, I find myself lacking the resources besides, "Just listen to the music okay?" Now I will gladly point them here.
