::DISCLAIMER:: I OWN NOTHING. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. THE TITLE IS A PLAY ON PANIC! AT THE DISCO'S 'LYING IS THE MOST FUN ETC'.::
Summary: She drops Brendon and Spencer off at the airport on a Thursday, hugging them tight and ignoring the tears in her eyes.
Coincidentally, it's also a Thursday when Chloe, their oldest (fourteen going on twenty-eight, according to Brendon), comes home with electric blue hair.

"I just didn't expect her to do this," Nicole says, looking into the webcam as Spencer laughs. She can see Brendon in the background, still cackling in delight as they look at the pictures Nicole sent. It's not that Nicole really minds, not really, but she would have liked a little warning that she sent her daughter off to only come back as some new generation punk rocker.
"Oh, come on, it's not that bad," Spencer says, laughing still as Brendon clambers over, beaming.
"I think it's amazing. Our daughter, the rebel," he says, laughing delightedly. Nicole looks over the picture that she sent, the one where Chloe's rolling her eyes, bright blue hair sticking up in a short, spiked style.
"It's not BAD, no, but. I sent her off to Anna's with long brown hair and she came back with this. All in four hours!" Nicole says, listening to Spencer laugh harder. Brendon drapes over Spencer's back and he beams at her, proud and happy and her chest aches with how much she misses them.
"At least she didn't shave it all off? I mean, she's still got hair, so we should count it as a win," Brendon says, making Nicole laugh. Spencer clicks a couple of times and Nicole pulls up the other picture while she can; Chloe's laughing in this one, face scrunched up (exactly like Spencer, Nicole thinks fondly) and just a tiny bit blurry. Her hair, shorter than Nicole's ever seen it in Chloe's entire life, is a blue smear of pixels and when she looks into the webcam, Brendon's watching her.
"So, hey, you've told us about the oldest, now tell us about that blasted younger brother of hers," Spencer says, leaning back into Brendon as Nicole giggles, curling up in her chair before launching into a story about Ethan.
===
"Chloe Elizabeth Anderson-Smith, that had better be a fake piercing," Nicole says in mild horror (and yes, some amusement) as she stares at Chloe's lip. The silver hoop glints in the light, winking at Nicole as she listens to Ethan and Opti running around outside.
"Why?"
"Because we agreed on no piercings until you're sixteen?" Nicole says, staring as she reaches out to touch it. Chloe swats at her hand, scowling as Nicole straightens up, putting her hands on her hips.
"YOU agreed on it," Chloe says mulishly, poking her tongue at the hoop and Nicole is itching to tug on it and reassure herself that her baby girl did not actually shove a needle through her lip.
"No, we told you no piercings until you're sixteen and one of us went with you. And now you've gotten your lip pierced," Nicole says, knowing that there's a sick sense of amusement layering everything as Ethan and Opti (short for Optimus, because Nicole has an entire family of dorks) run in.
"Mom, can I hav-what's in your lip?" Ethan says, zeroing in on Chloe's lip. He's got her hair and her eyes, but otherwise, he looks enough like Brendon that she sometimes wonders how people don't catch on about the three of them.
"Chloe, what's in your lip?" Ethan asks, trying to see as Chloe puts her hand over his head, his laugh ringing through the kitchen.
"It's a ring," she says, shoving him playfully. They're six years apart, Ethan not yet having hit his growth spurt and Chloe all awkward limbs and a ragged haircut that's still shocking when Nicole looks at her. The blue's faded some, instead of being electric, now it just looks dirty. She's not sure which one she prefers, honestly.
"Why would you put a ring through your lip?"
"'Cause I want to, squirt," Chloe says, dragging a squirming Ethan into a hug as Opti dances around their feet, woofing in excitement as Nicole sighs. She watches them for a minute, watching Chloe dig her fingers into Ethan's side and she can't stop her grin at the resultant squeal of laughter.
When Chloe lets go of him, he pulls on his shirt and makes a face at her, "I think that's dumb," he says finally, running back outside with Opti. Nicole looks at Chloe, watching her grin fade as she sighs.
"This isn't over, Chloe," Nicole says, blinking when Chloe huffs and stomps up the stairs. Shaking her head, Nicole boots up the laptop, waiting until it bleeps and she sees Brendon's face. He's sleepy, creases from the pillow still lining his face as he smiles at her.
"Well, hello, pretty lady," he says, leering as she laughs.
"Hey yourself, handsome," she says, smiling.
===
"So, we're up to what, now? Chop job on the hair, home dye job, and a lip piercing all through her friend Anna?" Spencer asks, grinning as Nicole groans. The computer's perched on the toilet seat as she sinks down under the water for a moment. When she surfaces, Spencer's in the middle of laughing with Brendon.
"What?"
"Brendon said we should let her do what she wants and then take all the pictures. And have them framed for when she starts dating," Spencer says as Nicole snorts.
"Should I tell her to take it out tomorrow?"
"Dude, we told her the rule. If she doesn't want to do it, take her computer and phone," Brendon says, shrugging. Spencer nods in agreement as Nicole sighs, leaning back against the tile of the tub.
"I wish you guys could see Ethan with Opti. It is the cutest thing in the entire world. He runs around with him in the exact same way Chloe ran around with Pudding Pop," Nicole says, grinning as Brendon settles back on the bed with his guitar. Spencer looks over his shoulder and they share a bright smile.
"Are they Adventure Buddies?"
"Of course," Nicole says, giggling as she pulls her legs out of the water, watching the steam curl through the air. Spencer laughs, looking back to the computer as Brendon starts plucking through 'Always', smiling at them.
Her chest hurts, in the best way possible, as she smiles back.
===
She picks Brendon and Spencer up at the airport on a Friday, wrapping her arms around both of them quickly before they climb into the car. It's a short drive home, longer than Nicole wants as she drives. Spencer's hand is tangled with hers and she can feel Brendon's fingers carding through her hair.
"Missed you," she says as they pile out of the car and into the house. It's early still, the kids in school and it's the only reason she lets herself fall to the couch with both of them, sliding out of clothes and against one another. She whispers it against their lips, holding on as they arch against her.
Brendon's lips are hot on her neck and Spencer's lips are slick on her own as they thrust lazily. She feels pinned between them, not complaining, but urging them to go faster, closing her eyes and feeling tears prick her eyes.
It's been a long four months, she thinks, after.
Spencer's lips trail in a light, damp line of kisses along her shoulder. Brendon's holding onto her tightly, like she's going to go somewhere if he lets go as she leans back.
They curl up on the couch, naked with sweat drying as she sighs softly, smiling.
"Anything new?" Spencer asks, sliding a broad hand over her stomach, sliding it up to cup her breast, grinning when she sighs. She arches into it as his thumb swipes over her nipple.
"Chloe's hair's orange. Bright, traffic cone orange. So that means you get to have a talk with your daughter when she comes home," Nicole says, grinning when Spencer makes a noise, Brendon's laugh felt before she hears it.
"Why is she my daughter when she dyes her hair?" he asks as Nicole laughs, kissing him lightly.
"Because only your daughter would be so particular as to take it to heart when I told her 'no more blue'," Nicole says, grinning as Brendon laughs harder. Spencer's lips twitch and when they start laughing, Nicole closes her eyes, stretching out between them.
Her chest feels three sizes too small for the warmth of having Brendon and Spencer home, and she holds onto them tighter for it.
