Sometimes, if he tries really hard, Spencer can remember a time in pre-school, before he became friends with Ryan Ross, when Valentine’s Day was not a big deal.
“I don’t you need to schedule my night,” Spencer says. Five hours ago this was amusing, but now he is starting to get pissed. Ryan is getting ready for his date, carefully applying the last line of eyeliner, before meeting Spencer’s glare in the mirror.
“Yes, you do,” he says simply, infuriatingly smug.
“Ryan--” It’s difficult to seem menacing while lying on a bed, but Spencer tries. Ryan doesn’t seem threatened at all.
“Go over to Brendon’s, Spencer.” Ryan says, checking his back pocket for his wallet, before making to leave the room. He pauses in the doorframe, smirking as he carelessly tosses out, “Oh, and don’t forget to wear your crown.”
Spencer sits up, but Ryan has already disappeared from view. “Ryan? Ryan! How do you know about that? I never told you.”
“Happy Valentine’s Day,” Spencer murmurs, pressing a kiss against Brendon’s temple. In the background, the television screen is playing the third Disney film of the night. “Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, of course!” Brendon had said earlier, inserting the dvd. “I was beginning to think I was going to have to use Pocahontas to woo you, even though you aren't a John Smith at all.”
His friends my be certifiable insane, Spencer thinks, his cardboard crown lost between the couch cushions, and Brendon a warm, solid weight against him, but at least they got the title right.
When the prince of my dreams comes to me He'll whisper I love you And steal a kiss or two
