Overall Thoughts: HOLY FUCKING SHIT, THAT IS A LOT. HOLY SHIT, OH MY GOD, DID I REALLY WRITE ALL THAT? Oh my GOD, that is amazing. Last year, I laughed because I hadn't expected it to seem like SO MUCH, and this year, looking at all of that is like DOUBLY amazing. Oh my GOD, look at all of it. *marvels*
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted? AHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHHAHAHAA, SO MUCH MORE. Dude, at the beginning of the year, I was surprised that I even wrote Mike/Tom, and that's it. I didn't expect to write for BGBB, and I certainly didn't expect to FINISH it.
IN TOTAL, I WROTE 67, 201 WORDS IN 2010.
Holy. Fucking. Shit.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January? Hmmm, I honestly didn't expect to write Empires! I also didn't expect to write anyone with Kevin Jonas other than Mike, but HIIII. I really didn't expect anything I wrote, half the time. XD
What's your own favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest?
OOH, TOUGHIE.
Threeway tie between: Heart On A Postcard, The Message Is Clear, and Dressed In The Scenery.
HoaP, for obvious reasons, is my favorite. It is the largest thing, to date, that I have written and completed enough to post fully.
But TMiC is another BIG BIG BIG favorite, because I always want to see more conversation in fic, and I love writing Gabe, but especially Gabe and Patrick.
But ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, DitS is probably one that I'm happiest with, overall. I wanted to write Mike and Tom as grown-ups. I didn't want there to be any fighting or shit like that, I just wanted two completely awkward dudes dealing with each other for a mutual friend. And I wrote that.
BUUUUUUUUTTT the fic that makes me SO DELIGHTED, more than almost anything else? Wet Hot American Summer.
When I set out to write my SDS 2010 exchange fic, I had originally planned on writing one of
akire_yta's prompts, where Kevin's off of Disney.
hector_rashbaum and I have chat-ficced that out A LOT, and I had a lot of good stuff to go off of, but I could never make it fit right? And, as a joke, I sat down one night, and wrote the first couple of letters from Kevin to Mike and voila, it all spun from there. It ended up being exactly as I saw it in my head, which is stupidly rare. (Fun Fact: The last letter, the extra scenes with Nicole, two of the conversations with Mike, and at least one of the first letters were all written within an hour of posting. Seriously! I was getting ready to post when I started tweaking and I ended up tacking on about 1000 words!)
Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?
I took a big risk in signing up for BGBB! I don't have the best track record for finishing things on time or in general, but I kept at this one, because it was a story that I really wanted to get across. And I'm so proud of Heart On A Postcard for that reason.
And hm. What did I learn from it? I learned that I can write long stuff, that I just have to sit down and really work at it. I learned that Pete Wentz is AMAZINGLY fun to write, and I like writing Cassadee. I learned a lot, while writing that fic. Most of all, I learned just how annoying editing is.
Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year?
I wanna write a total of 100K! I wrote over 67K words this year, HOLY SHIT. I wanna go a little further next year, and I wanna write 100K, with the small stipulation of writing a 20K fic. I'd also like to participate in BBB next year. That terrifies me, fuck. <3_<3
From my past year of writing, what was...:
My best story of this year:
I hate when this question is asked of me...mostly because I don't know! What do YOU guys think was technically my best story of the year? I suppose I could say my BGBB was the best one of the year, maybe? IDK
My most popular story of this year:
According to comments, Wet Hot American Summer ! 48 comments, wow. Granted, about...half of those are from me responding.
But in a very close second, is Naughty Nights For Niceness, which has 40 comments!
Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
*makes face* Hate this question.
Ummm. The Message Is Clear. I wanted more comments than I got on it, because I'm really proud and greedy like that. But, mostly, I'm just delighted that
sleepherealone loved it. So I guess that one and not that one?
I dunno, I really wanted ONE of my fics to go to two comment pages, honestly. Like, I've never had that happen, so I want to see it, because omg. IDK.
Most fun story to write:
Without a shadow of doubt, Wet Hot American Summer!
Story with the single sexiest moment:
You Gotta Thrill My Soul
There's a moment, when Girl!Sean asks if Girl!Ryan is watching while her and Girl!Tom do dirty things in the back of the van, and for some reason, that sticks with me as one of the sexiest moments I've written this year.
(Also, the moment in Don't Forget To Take Deep Breaths when Tom hits his knees. NNGH)
(ALSO - Sing It For Them when Spencer goes down on Nicole. )
Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story:
Um. Probably Ray Toro/Sean Van Vleet? IDK.
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters:
Hm, that's a really good question, actually. I think that Dressed In The Scenery is one that shifted some things around, because it's very easy to cast Tom and Mike into these roles of bitter guys at what went down when they were young. And writing something like that, set in the future, when both guys HAVE proven that they can hold a grudge, and making it work, I'm glad it shifted that.
At Least I'm Waking Up was another one that I'm grateful for. It started out as a gift, and ended up being something that changed how I saw Ryland and Alex's relationship, especially with something that stressful, and the glib comments about bringing Victoria in, which is still on the table for another fic. I liked that quality of what Tiger Hammock represents to them, in way.
Hardest story to write:
(Tell Me It's Right) Going To Plan, which is the Singer-centric fic I wrote for the Macy Misa fest. I wanted to write it as something where you DO pity Singer, and I wanted it to hurt, but it took a lot tweaking and fiddling before I ever got it to where I wanted it. It was a struggle, but a good one.
Biggest Disappointment:
I Have My Reasons, which is the Miley/Selena fic. I wrote this one as a one-off, with wanting to write the two girls being catty and mean to each other, but to still have that tense undercurrent. I don't know if I actually did that, or if it ended up being just some sort of cariacture or something. I'm happy with it, to the point that I'm really delighted by a bunch of it, but I guess I'm disappointed that I don't know if I did it well or not. IDK.
Biggest Surprise:
Stay Light, because I didn't expect it to come so easily and to be so much fun to write/think about/chat-fic, etc.
Also - Sing It For Them, because WOW, HI. I didn't expect to write that, but once I saw the song...well. UNF UNF UNF.
Most Unintentionally Telling Story:
I'd say Heart On A Postcard, in a way. I've said, at one point, that HoaP is my big love letter to
hector_rashbaum and that's still very true. But, I think that the gen pieces, especially Poets Of The Deed and If It Works are a lot of me kind of...I dunno, saying what I want, from cuddles, I guess? IDK, I wrote both of them when I was kind of lonely, and I think that kind of comes across in a way.
Other than that, I don't know...maybe someone sees it differently than me..and hey, if you do - go for it and let me know.
What fic did I miss talking about? Is there a fic you're STILL curious about how I wrote or whatever? I wanna know, I wanna talk about it!
