So, I was digging through my fics tonight, and came across this. I honestly can't tell you when I wrote, it but I did at some point. I quite like, so I've decided to post it.
Title: It's Just A Matter Of Time 'Til Everything's Okay
Pairing: Ryan Ross/Mikey Way/Alicia Simmons-Way (past Ryan/Pete, Ryan/Keltie, Mikey/Pete, and Alicia/Pete)
Rating: Light PG (IDEK, YOU GUYS)
Summary: "I don't want to fix him," he says back, leaning in for retaliation as Mikey gives him a bitter smile.
"I said the same thing too,"
Author's Note: The title comes from the band Hello Kelly's song 'Fall Over Me' lyrics. I have never heard this song, but when I typed in the wrong song, these lyrics seemed to fit. So I'm using them. I also own nothing and no one in this fic. This was, however, written pre-Panic(!) implosion, FYI.
The first time Ryan meets Mikey Way, it's at an Angels and Kings party, and both of them seem to realize something in the other. Ryan's not met the My Chem guys before, and there's a fifteen year old part of him screaming in delight on the inside. But Mikey's eyes are clear, no glasses obstructing them, and Ryan's fanboy mind pulls out the fact that Mikey had lasik some years ago.
Mikey's got a beer in his hand, fingers curled around the neck comfortably as Ryan gives a smile that feels shallow as he really is sometimes. Ryan's own fingers tighten around whatever day-glo concoction that Gabe had handed him as Mikey leans in, following Ryan's line of vision to Pete.
"You can't fix him, you know. People like us can't," he says, monotone but sad all at once, as Ryan pulls back a little, sinking his neck against his shoulders.

The first time Ryan sits down and talks with Mikey Way, it's nowhere in particular, something that Ryan finds comforting. It's a tea hut (or something like that. Jon called it a 'hut', but Jon's a caffeine snob) that has quiet blues playing, the sound of slide guitar pulling all the hurts Ryan has to the surface.
"Tea, Ryan Ross?" Mikey says, mouth curling up into a slightly cruel twist as he settles himself down at Ryan's table. In a brief moment, Ryan's reminded of William. Of the bitter, scared facade that they both put up. It startles him to think of Mikey having that same..flaw, for lack of better words.
"Man cannot live on coffee alone, Mikeyway," he says, seeing the cruel twist soften as he looks up from his notebook. Mikey nods, taking a testing sip of his own tea before taking a larger one. It's testing and Ryan gets the feeling that Mikey's applying the same lesson to him.
"So tell me, did you ever figure out what could fix Pete Wentz?"
"Love," Ryan says, surprised at the startlingly easy answer as Mikey's eyebrows shoot up, and yeah, a cynical smirk comes across his face.
"Love. Really, Ryan? I thought you guys had just taken the pot smoking theories of The Beatles to heart,"
"That too. Love that doesn't need to fix him, though, is what I meant. Where we went wrong, she's gone right,"
And that...that stings. But Ryan supposes it's the same thing that Spencer faces when they meet eyes, Ryan finally realizing that just because he's happy, it doesn't mean he has to be Brendon. No, he can see the relaxed smiles that Spencer sinks into when he thinks Ryan doesn't notice. Pete's smiles are less brittle, his eyes less exhausted, and his laugh less desperate.
"Touche," Mikey murmurs, shifting to cross his legs and looking over at Ryan, he tilts his head just slightly.
"See something?" Ryan asks, shifting his arm to shake his bracelets down to his wrist in a quick motion that Mikey watches.
"Maybe," he says, and they have an odd moment of understanding that Ryan can't place. Before Mikey can say anything, a woman comes up and drapes herself around Mikey. Ryan restrains his reaction to an arched eyebrow as Mikey pulls her close and his expression changes. And oh.
Oh.
"Hey, so, maybe you could tell me who the hell you're drinking tea with," and Ryan recognizes her. Fuck, it's surreal that this is his life. But he sees the recognition in her eyes too and he offers the slightest quirk of the lips. She returns it before Mikey makes the introductions, her cool hand sliding into Ryan's. His eyes focus on her nose ring before they settle into soft conversation.
Before the end of it, he's agreed to dinner.

"Why are you stressing about it, dude? It's just Mikey," Jon says, voice cracking a little in the wind that seems to be constantly blowing in Chicago. Ryan holds his phone closer before sighing into the receiver.
"Because, it's Mikey," he says, pushing his thumb against his eyelid for a moment until sparks bloom and the room takes a moment to readjust.
"Is it 'cause he like...knows what you mean when you don't really answer questions?"
Sometimes, Ryan hates Jon Walker.

The first time Ryan is struck speechless, it's at the hand of Alicia, rather than Mikey Way.
"We all thought we could fix him. Maybe it was him fixing us," she says, her feet stretching into Ryan's lap as his hands settle on her slender ankles as he tilts his head questioningly at her. He talks more around them, he finds, and even more, he doesn't mind. He's at ease with these two, something so similar reaching out between the three of them and linking them more than he thought possible.
It's then that Ryan thinks perhaps he's in trouble.
"I met Mikey through Pete. You met Mikey through Pete. But...Pete kind of gave you an escape from Vegas, yeah?"
Ryan nods, aware of Mikey's eyes focused on him as Alicia talks, her feet rubbing against each other.
"Maybe he was fixing us when we thought we were fixing him. Pete's...kind of smarter than we might give him credit for,"
And that's.
Well, that's the honestly sad truth of it.
"I didn't need fixing," he finally manages, and it sticks in his throat, but he forces it out, unable to admit weakness to anyone that wasn't his band. Spencer's known all his weaknesses since first meeting him. Brendon worked his way through them, and Jon slid past all of them like he was meant to.
But Alicia and Mikey are hitting him right through all of them, more searing and deep than his band ever managed. Deeper than Keltie could after years of being together.
"Everyone needs fixing, Ryan Ross," Mikey says, and his eyes are calm, which means a good swing, and for some reason Ryan misses the bad swing. The bad means that Mikey understands him, the good means that Mikey understands him, but then tries to help him.
Alicia stands up slowly, wandering into the kitchen without so much as a 'be right back', and Ryan's alone with Mikey. Mikey who shifts over and touches his face. It's...weird. Weird without being strange.
"Everyone needs fixing, Ryan Ross," Mikey says again, "even you."
And there's something in his tone that if Ryan was paying more attention to, he could prepare and pull back. But Mikey's lips press against his, soft and gentle, more than Ryan would have expected. (More than he thought he deserved, says a dark voice in the back of his mind)
Mikey's hand slides into his hair and Ryan's too dumbstruck to kiss back as Mikey slides back, eyes warm in the dim lamplight. Alicia comes back into the room with two cups of tea, handing one to Ryan and settling down between Mikey and Ryan with the other. She studies him for a moment, and says something that upsets everything.
"How bad did Pete Wentz fuck you up while trying to fix you?"
There's a drawn out moment of silence, two sets of eyes staring at him imploringly, as his heart beats frantically against his ribcage. He knows that when he freaks out, his face goes utterly stony. Shut down, as Brendon would say, before tracing along Ryan's cheekbones.
Ryan puts his teacup down before rushing out the door, breath coming quickly and eyes filling with shamed - no. Nothing. His eyes were filling with nothing.
Pete Wentz couldn't fuck up something that was already fucked up.

Ryan's not one for flights of fancy. Okay, well, he is, but not when it counts. But he's only been to Mikey's house a few times, really, and it's not like he was that familiar with the house, or them. However, when he's out, Ryan finds himself buying things for the animals.
Little things, like cat toys, and a few tug-of-war ropes, and general things that he thinks might be neat. Keltie has Hobo, and he misses his dog, but he's starting to think that maybe he could just...buy some things for Mikey and Alicia's dogs and feel pretty good.
"You stocking up for a pet?" asks Spencer, eyes concerned for a long moment as Ryan looks down at the basket in PetSmart. It's full of cat toys, ridiculous mice, and other assorted dog toys and treats. He smiles a little, looking around and shrugging.
"Not really,"
===
The first time Ryan misses Mikey Way (and Alicia), he's back in Vegas. He's standing in a cemetery, looking over the bare grave of his father, and for the first time, he feels...broken.
It's cliche, he knows, to feel like his dad didn't really like him. But he knows that it's not true. At least, he hopes.
He misses the soft tones of Mikey and Alicia, their cool hands sliding across his hair, petting him and comforting him. He misses the lamplight of their living room, animals snuffling around the house as they sit on the couch.
why didn't you ever try to fix me?
He sends the text to Pete, hoping for something like, 'i couldn't', or something, but what he gets back floors him.
u didnt needme to dude. u okay
And Pete's...Pete. He says things plainly only after you ask the right question. And Ryan manages a smile even though Pete can't see it.

The first time that Ryan kisses Mikey Way (and Alicia) is when he knocks on their door, three am, and feeling more exhausted than ever before. Piglet lets out excited whuffling noises that keeps him in the now as Mikey kisses him harder, soft noises surrounding him as Alicia takes her turn.
Pete might have known how to fix them after all.
