Show report, part 1 - The Young Veins

Since I have over 150 pictures to edit for Rooney (I know, I went a little crazy during the songs I didn't know), I figured I'd split the post into two sections, one for The Young Veins and one for Rooney. I'll link the Rooney post here, no worries:



So last night, I went and saw The Young Veins with Rooney. The show was good, but it wasn't that great? IDK, I wanted it to be better than it was, and that sucks.

We got there in the middle of Black Gold's set because of the rain and all. Seriously, it started raining SO HARD, like the bottom just completely fucking dropped out as we were driving in, so we got hung up just a little bit. Jamie and I still managed to catch a few songs by them and I have to say, I was actually really impressed!

After they finished playing, we went to go talk to the band a little bit while the stage got set up for TYV. We ended up talking to Eric and Than for a little while, actually. They were really nice and I did end up telling Eric, "you know, seriously, last time we were here was for the Civic tour in 08...and it rained on us then. And now it's raining. AGAIN."

And Eric laughed and goes, "you can totally blame the rain on me then, I'll let you."

Than and I ended up chatting about The Beatles and Ringo Starr and that, you think his stuff is simple. Until you sit down and it kicks your ass. That conversation actually got started by Than asking for a piece of gum, and I told him he was lucky that I brought my real purse in. XD (I took it instead of my camera bag because I needed to carry a few more things than I normally do, so purse it was)

And my purse happens to have The Beatles on it. A+.

We were GOING to get a picture with Than, but when I went to ask, he'd wandered off. I wish I could have gotten a picture with him too, because he was a lot of fun to chat with, but oh well. Next time, I suppose. XD

We did get a picture with Eric though!



Holy crap, he's tall. Jamie's picture with him is pretty cute, because she's a lot shorter, so he tilted his head into her.

So after we chatted, we excused ourselves to get a spot for The Young Veins. I mean, we didn't have to worry...seriously, there were only maybe. 60 people or so there? It was a small crowd, but that wasn't so bad. I was a little worried that the crowd wasn't as into The Young Veins?

But the energy got a bit better towards the end of the set when they did Take A Vacation and Change. They threw some beach balls into the crowd for people and everyone kept hitting them up on the stage and that kept making them laugh. At one point, Ryan goes, "So we threw some beach balls into the crowd for you guys but we keep getting them back. Man."

It was pretty damned hilarious, honestly.

Some pictures! I didn't get many good individual pictures? I couldn't get a good view of Nick White or Nick Murray, but I tried. None of them really came out, of course, but I love the lighting in Amos', so I wasn't too upset.

However, I got some pretty decent full band shots, which surprised me, because usually those are the ones that don't come out, LOL!


They were doing some of their soundchecking and I mostly got this picture for the purpose of his guitar strap. <3

Definitely not the best, but oh man, I love this picture. I love it SO MUCH.








I was trying to get a picture of him singing along, but by the time I got my camera up and took a picture, I got this picture. I kept it to illustrate HOW TINY THAT MAN IS. GOOD LORD, RYAN ROSS.






I really like this shot, just for the lighting on Ryan and the fact that you can see Nick in the background. (Seriously, I took a lot of pictures during their set, this is pretty much the only picture of either of the Nicks that came out. *facepalm*)

This one is a sequence that I got by sheer luck? I try to sometimes take a ton of pictures all at once, just continuous shooting in the hopes that some'll come out, but this sequence is my favorite.

This was mostly kept for Jon's face. I think Ryan said something? I'm not sure, but Jon kind of grinned at him and laughed a little, and it was sweet.

And now the full band shots! They're not the best, but I was surprised so many of them came out!












So when they were done playing, we watched them break stuff down and I managed to nearly bump into Nick Murray while trying to cross to the bar, go me. But no harm, no foul, y/y?

Once they had the stage broken down, we wandered to the back of Amos' to talk to the guys and I went up to Nick Murray and talked to him about the show and all. He was really sweet and kept telling me I was really thoughtful for getting a card signed for hector_rashbaum. I got a picture with him and he did that Tom Conrad thing where he looks mildly terrified in the picture.



After that, we went over and chatted with Andy for a little while, mostly idle chatter while I told him about the card and chatted about the show. He was really sweet, if a little quiet.



He did though, put his arm up so that light from a sign behind him wouldn't mess up the picture. <3

Nick White was right there nearby, so I went over and we talked a little bit, mostly about the show and all. I asked him to sign the card and he was very sweet about it, he kept asking me where it was going and who it was for.

So we got a picture and Jamie showed it to us and we noticed that Nick was kind of looking off to the side, but it was still a good picture, you know?



Well, Nick goes, aw man, I'm not looking at your camera! We need to take another one (insert me asking if he's sure before being bowled over), oh man, we should look super serious in this one. Do you wanna look serious in it? We totally should.

...Well, what else was I gonna do but agree?



He was a lot of fun to talk to, and he was REALLY glad the pictures came out. XD

After Nick, we wandered over to Ryan. At this point, Jamie let me know she wanted a picture with Ryan but she'd let me get my card signed and stuff first. While standing there with Ryan, I noticed that. He is not as tall as everyone thinks he is.

Like seriously, I'm kind of tall, yeah, but he's only a TINY bit taller than me. I was so surprised! When I shook his hand, I nearly went OMG because his hand was so soft and delicate. Like, I wanted to tell him DON'T LET US SHAKE YOUR HAND, OH MY GOD, I FEEL LIKE I'M GONNA BREAK YOU. I mean, I didn't, but I definitely thought it.

Jamie and I mentioned the rain and having been rained on while IN LINE in 2008 and Ryan nodded and goes, yeah man, I was on my way back from eating and I was walking down and it just started pouring down rain. I walked in here and it looked like I'd just gotten out of the shower.

We chatted a little while longer before I asked for a picture with him. HE IS SO TINY, good lord.

Ryan signing hector_rashbaum's card. I won't tell you his message, because I want it to be a surprise for her, but HE IS CONCENTRATING SO HARD. XD

Seriously, I could probably toss the boy over my shoulder, he's tiny. He was really very sweet though, and so I took his and Jamie's picture.

After that, we wandered over to Jon. Jon Walker is taller than you think. I KNOW, I WAS JUST AS SURPRISED.

But seriously, he's taller than you'd think. I didn't have to approach him, when he was done with some other fans, he turned and was like Hi! So I thanked him for a good show and told him that I really really loved the Otis Redding cover. (That lead to him saying, I'm really glad, 'cause like, we don't have many songs, you know) (<3___<3)

I then told him that I was glad they'd played Defiance since it's my favorite right now, lol (It's almost always changing, seriously.)

We stood there and talked for a little while longer, and he finally held up a sheep that someone gave him and goes, man, I like the stuffed animals and all, but I wish people would bring me, like, dog toys or something. Mine likes to tear these up and then there's cotton ALL OVER THE PLACE.

I couldn't help but laugh and tell him that Dobie, my old dog, used to tear squeakers out of squeaky toys and Jon goes man, my dog hates them too.

We talked about our animals a little while longer (IDEK. ♥__♥) and I asked him to sign the card, and he was like, man, that's awesome that you're doing this.


I won't tell you what he put, but he DID actually sign the card as 'Jwalk'.

MY EYES. THEY ARE HEARTS.

So I was shifting to grab the envelope to put the card in there and he saw my purse. My purse is freaking awesome in that it has The Beatles on it.

At that point, Jon goes, oh man! That's an awesome purse, that's so cool, look at that!

I told him, "I'd let you sign it but, yeah, no." and he kind of grinned and goes, "dude, I wouldn't sign that, I couldn't!"

And then there was a pause as he lifted it up and looked at each side to see if they were different before going.

"Man, I wish I could wear a purse like that."

....WHAT ELSE WAS I SUPPOSED TO SAY BUT, "dude you totally could. You could pull that off."

And he kind of grinned and SLUNG IT ON HIS SHOULDER. YOU GUYS, I'M NOT KIDDING. AND THEN HE ASKED IF I WANTED A PICTURE WITH HIM WHILE HE WAS WEARING IT.

...WELL, OF COURSE I DO, JON WALKER.



LOOK AT THAT. OH MY GOD, LOOK AT HIM WITH *MY* PURSE. We were laughing when he handed it back to me before going, 'Do you want one with me without it? "

WHY YES I DO.



We chatted a little while longer before Jamie and I headed back into the "crowd" to get a spot for Rooney, since they were getting ready to come out onstage.


And then it was Rooney! <3 <3 <3
