Three drabbles. IDEK.
I got bored...and there's some Jonas Brothers videos up on the music in demand channels. I was watching Lovebug, and...IDK. These came about. So...yeah.
Three drabbles that actually don't exceed 110 words. Which is amazing. I've done ONE 100 word drabble. EVER. LMAO.
Here they are:
Kevin chooses the sniper unit, not because he wants to watch out for everyone, but so he can keep an eye on Joe.
It does help that he doesn't have to watch anyone die.
The smell of gunpowder and wet soil is all around him and he wants to cry so hard at night, but he doesn't, because that's not what men in the army do. He does, however, invest in quality paper and pens to write home to Nick.
Nick who was too young to get drafted, and too smart to sign up.
Kevin sometimes wonders why they're in this war at all.
Nick sometimes entertains the thought of being angry at his brothers. Angry because they were able to go off and fight for their country. Angry because they're being useful.
Not staying at home, being a good little genius.
He gets letters, sure, from Kevin and Joe. Mostly Kevin, though, describing the weather and their surroundings. Never any talk about death, and he can't help but curse their luck of being drafted.
It isn't until his brothers return home, one with a haunted look in his eyes, and the other missing an arm, that he realizes he's the lucky one.
Joe doesn't know many things after the war. He doesn't know why he decided to run in front of that round. He's not sure why everyone averts their eyes. He lost an arm, yes. But he's still Joseph Jonas.
He can still sing.
The things he does know overpower the ones he doesn't. He knows that his brothers will always be there for him. He knows that Kevin understands every night terror that ends with Joe in his bed. He knows Nick offers anything to soothe them.
Joe's breath still catches at some sounds, but Nick and Kevin are there to give it back.
